§ 6-196. Posting of notice prohibiting occupancy.

  • (a)

    If a notice issued under section 6-186, section 6-187, section 6-188 or section 6-189 and served in accordance with section 6-190, as the same may be modified on appeal, requires that the building or structure identified therein be vacated, the owner to whom the notice has been issued and upon whom the notice has been served shall cause to be posted at each exit and entrance to the building or structure a statement in at least 1/2 inch letters that reads as follows: THIS BUILDING IS UNSAFE AND ITS USE OR OCCUPANCY HAS BEEN PROHIBITED BY THE BUILDING OFFICIAL.

    (b)

    Each statement posted in accordance with subsection (a) must remain so posted until the unsafe conditions rendering the building or structure an unsafe building as identified in the notice have been abated or the demolition thereof has been completed.

    (c)

    It is a violation of this article for any person to remove any statement posted in accordance with subsection (a) without written permission from the building official, or for any person to enter the building or structure upon which posted except for the purpose of making required repairs, boarding up and securing the same, or demolishing the same in accordance with the requirements of this article.
