§ 7-77. Scope and format of examinations.
(a)
All examinations shall test knowledge of such portions of the applicable codes, laws, rules, and principles that are relevant to the trade or craft concerned. Journeyman examinations shall be practical and elementary, but sufficiently strict to test the applicant's ability to install, erect, and perform the work necessary to make a safe, complete, and adequate installation of the type of construction or installation done by the trade or craft concerned. Master, contractor, and specialty contractor examinations shall be comprehensive and shall test the applicant's ability to plan, lay out, supervise, and do the work of the trade or craft concerned, and shall include business, law, and mathematical problems as well as technical questions.
(b)
The written portion of an examination shall comprise a combination of multiple choice, fill-in, and true/false questions and shall include diagrams, plans, or sketches to demonstrate the applicant's knowledge of circuits, systems, construction details, and other things normally used in the trade or craft concerned. No question on any written examination shall be of a discussion or essay nature that leaves the correctness of the answer to the judgment of the grader.
