§ 17-17. Members.

  • (a)

    The county public library board of trustees shall be composed of seven (7) members, appointed by the board of county commissioners as follows:

    (1)

    Two (2) members shall serve at large.

    (2)

    Of the five (5) other members, one member shall reside in each of the five (5) county commissioners districts.

    (b)

    The terms of the initial members shall be as follows:

    (1)

    One of the at large members shall serve until October 1, 1979.

    (2)

    One of the at large members shall serve until October 1, 1980.

    (3)

    The member appointed from County Commission District 1 shall serve until October 1, 1978.

    (4)

    The member appointed from County Commission District 2 shall serve until October 1, 1979;

    (5)

    The member appointed from County Commission District 3 shall serve until October 1, 1979;

    (6)

    The member appointed from County Commission District 4 shall serve until October 1, 1980.

    (7)

    The member appointed from County Commission District 5 shall serve until October 1, 1980.

    Thereafter their successor shall be appointed for terms of four (4) years, except that an appointment to fill a vacancy shall be for the unexpired term only. No individual shall serve for more than two (2) terms on said board, and a member can only succeed himself one time.

    (c)

    Each of the five (5) members who serve from each of the county commissioner districts shall be a qualified elector of the commission district which he represents. Each member at large shall be a qualified elector of the county.

    (d)

    Any member of the board who ceases to be a qualified elector within the commission district which he represents or who shall fail to attend three (3) consecutive meetings of the board without due cause, shall immediately forfeit his office. Upon such forfeiture, the board of county commissioners shall fill the vacancy created thereby, by appointment as provided for herein.

    (e)

    Any member of the board may be removed from office without cause by the commission.
